Amazon asked for product compliance documents

A safety review blocked your listing until you upload a certificate or a lab report. Most rejections come from documents that don't match the exact product, not from unsafe products.

Short answer

Both are certificates the importer or US manufacturer issues, based on testing. A General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) covers general-use consumer products. A Children's Product Certificate (CPC) covers products made mainly for children 12 and under, and must be based on tests from a CPSC-accepted third-party lab.

Why does Amazon ask for compliance documents?

Amazon runs safety reviews on product categories, on new listings, and after customer complaints or recalls. When a product needs proof that it meets US safety rules, Amazon blocks the listing or sets a deadline until the documents are uploaded.

The request appears in Account Health. The Manage Your Compliance page in Seller Central lists the documents each ASIN needs and is where you upload them.

Which document does your product need?

  • General Certificate of Conformity (GCC): for general-use consumer products covered by a CPSC rule.
  • Children's Product Certificate (CPC): for products designed mainly for children 12 and under. Required to be based on testing at a CPSC-accepted lab.
  • Test reports: from an ISO 17025 accredited lab, and from a CPSC-accepted lab for children's products.
  • NRTL certification: for some electrical products, a certificate or listing from a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
  • Supporting items: compliance markings, instructions or manuals, tracking labels on children's products, and registration cards for durable infant products.

Don't guess. The request names the exact documents, and Amazon's Compliance Reference Tool in Seller Central shows requirements by product type.

What does Amazon check on the documents?

  • The product description matches the ASIN: name, model number and, ideally, a photo.
  • Every applicable safety rule is cited, and the citations match the test report.
  • Importer or US manufacturer name, address and contact details.
  • Where and when the product was made and tested.
  • The lab's name and details, and that the lab is accepted for those tests.
  • Contact details for the person who keeps the test records.
  • The document is in English, complete and readable.

Why do compliance documents get rejected?

  • The test report covers a different model, size or color variation.
  • Standards that apply to the product are missing from the report or the certificate.
  • The lab isn't accredited or accepted for those tests.
  • The report is old or the product has changed since it was tested.
  • Required fields are missing from the CPC or GCC.
  • Product images don't show required labels or warnings.
  • The same documents are uploaded again after a rejection, without fixing what was wrong.

What should you do if you don't have the documents?

  1. Ask the manufacturer for test reports and a certificate for this exact product.
  2. If they can't provide them, get a quote from an accepted lab that lists every standard that applies to your product.
  3. Issue your certificate based on the lab report, with every required field filled in.
  4. Upload everything in Manage Your Compliance before the deadline.
  5. If the product can't pass testing, remove the inventory rather than risk a safety complaint against your account.

Questions sellers ask

What's the difference between a GCC and a CPC?

Both are certificates the importer or US manufacturer issues, based on testing. A General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) covers general-use consumer products. A Children's Product Certificate (CPC) covers products made mainly for children 12 and under, and must be based on tests from a CPSC-accepted third-party lab.

Can I write the certificate myself?

Yes. The importer or US manufacturer issues the GCC or CPC. But it has to be backed by valid test results, and for children's products those tests must come from a CPSC-accepted lab. A certificate with no testing behind it is usually rejected.

How long do I have to upload documents?

Check the deadline in the request in Account Health. Requests often give around 30 days before listings are removed, and lab testing can take weeks, so start right away.

Can I use my supplier's test report?

Sometimes, if it covers the exact product you sell, lists the right standards, is recent, and comes from an accepted lab. Reports for a similar model, an older version or a different brand name are a common reason for rejection.
