Walmart Item Unpublished: Why It Happens and How to Fix It

An unpublished item on Walmart can't be found or bought, even though it still exists in your catalog. The most common cause is Walmart's pricing rule, but content and compliance problems can do it too. Here is how to find the reason and fix it.

Short answer

Walmart unpublishes items for pricing problems (priced well above the market, or so low it looks like an error), missing or incorrect content, and policy or compliance issues. Check the unpublished reason in Seller Center, fix that issue, and Walmart usually republishes compliant offers automatically, often within about 48 hours.

How do you find out why an item is unpublished?

In Seller Center, unpublished items show a reason in the item report and the unpublished items dashboard. Write down the exact reason, because each one has a different fix.

What are the most common reasons?

  • Reasonable price not satisfied. Walmart's pricing rule unpublishes offers priced well above recent prices for the same item on Walmart.com or competing sites. Walmart counts the item price plus shipping.
  • Pricing error. Offers priced unusually low can also be unpublished to protect you from a costly mistake.
  • Excessive shipping cost. Very high shipping fees can unpublish an offer or cost you the Buy Box.
  • Content and data problems. Missing required attributes, poor images, or incorrect product identifiers.
  • Policy and compliance issues. Prohibited or restricted products, intellectual property claims, or safety and compliance flags.

How do you fix a pricing unpublish?

  1. Check the reference price Walmart shows for the item. It's based on signals like competitor prices, historical prices and the Buy Box price.
  2. Adjust your price or reduce your shipping fee so the total is in line with the market.
  3. If Walmart matched your item to the wrong product elsewhere, which skews the reference price, submit a correct external price match.
  4. Wait for Walmart to republish. Compliant offers are generally republished automatically, often within about 48 hours.

What if the reason is policy or compliance?

These are more serious than pricing. Policy-related unpublishes can lead to account-level action if they keep happening. Fix the underlying issue, gather documents like invoices or test reports, and respond through Seller Center. For IP claims, see our Walmart IP claim guide.

Lots of items unpublished at once? That can point to an account-level problem. Send us a screenshot of your unpublished reasons and we'll help you sort out what matters first.

This guide is general information. Walmart's pricing and listing rules change, so check the reason shown in your Seller Center.

Questions sellers ask

How long does it take for an item to republish?

For pricing issues, Walmart generally republishes compliant offers automatically, often within about 48 hours of the fix. If it hasn't after that, contact Seller Support.

Why is my price "unreasonable" when it's close to other sellers?

Walmart may have matched your item to a different product, or counted your shipping fee. Check the reference price and submit a correct external match if needed.

Do unpublished items hurt my account?

Pricing unpublishes usually don't. Repeated policy or compliance unpublishes can lead to account-level action.

Can I lose the Buy Box without being unpublished?

Yes. Offers priced above the market but not high enough to unpublish can lose Buy Box eligibility.
